How my 'anthems' support me?

Updated: May 2, 2021

My anthem for 2015 was Danna Faulds' poem - ALLOW

"There is no controlling life.....

Resist, and the tide will sweep you off your feet.

Allow, and grace will carry you to higher ground.

The only safety lies in letting it all in – the wild and the weak; fear, fantasies, failures and success. "

Every line of the poem spoke to me - it was very intense, somewhat intimidating yet reassuring. It was like a very powerful hand pointing me to make an obvious yet heart-wrenching choice.

"When loss rips off the doors of the heart, or sadness veils your vision with despair, practice becomes simply bearing the truth. In the choice to let go of your known way of being, the whole world is revealed to your new eyes. "

My heart pulsated to these few lines - it was very illuminating to know that letting go, is also letting in a whole new world! "Allow" was a great support for me in my journey in 2015 and still is...

My anthem for 2016 was ZESTFUL EASE

“Breaths drop to the core Spine rises for the sky Feet touching the earth Back softens and shoulders relax Heart opens Aliveness

Asserting meets yielding Efforting meets letting go Rootedness meets flow Plan versus spontaneity The fulcrum Effortless”

I wrote this after my meditation retreat, inspired by my teacher at the International Meditation Center, who kept reminding us to be relaxed and zestful in our sitting. Finding the balance between asserting and yielding, efforting and letting go is hell difficult! However by keeping at it, I become more aware. Being effortless is so delicious to me when I do got glimpses of it... it is a worthwhile path to take and I aspire to stay on it.

My anthem for 2017? The word that came forth for me is RECEIVING!

While I am grateful for all that I have and receiving, my sense is I am too busy trying to return and offer... and what I need is to pay more attention, allow, and truly receive with zestful ease : ).

Have fun creating your anthem for 2017!
