What is your ANTHEM for 2017?

December 25, 2016

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I wrote on this topic two years ago, having been inspired by Leonard Cohen’s songs “going home” and “anthem”. While he has passed on, his inspiration stays... This is my first blog and it would be a sweet reminder to revisit this topic, celebrating Leonard Cohen's gift to us.

"Going home
Without my burden
Going home
Behind the curtain
Going home
Without the costume
That I wore... "      (Going Home by Leonard Cohen)

How would it be to let go of the triumphs, trials and perhaps, burdens of the year, and return home to ourselves? To who we are when we are not (our name), trying to perform all the roles we assume and to uphold the self-image we cling to. Returning home is liken returning your wireless phone to its base, to reconnect and recharge. There is an abundance of life energy in us when we allow ourselves to meet it.

"Don't dwell on what
Has passed away
Or what is yet to be.
Ah the wars they will
Be fought again…..

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in..."   (Anthem by Leonard Cohen)

Sometimes we may wallow in our difficult situations and allow it to be an excuse to abdicate our responsibilities towards ourselves and our love. Choose to do/be while we can still do/be… do not wait for the perfect time to make your perfect offering as our time is limited in this precious life. This is not the place to make things perfect, not in your work, marriage, nor anything. Imperfection (the crack) is where the light gets in, for restoration to take place, for us to unfold.

What is your anthem for 2017? The song/mantra/ slogan for your heart to support your aspirations for the New Year…

May the love in your heart nourishes you and every being that comes in contact with you!
